Drone Con 2019

Drones and UAV’s are becoming more and more prevalent in our daily lives. From capturing incredible aerial footage to performing tasks previously only conceived in science fiction. How has the industry changed from a free for all to one with strictly enforced regulations?
In 2011 the Minister of Transport signed the Eighth amendment of the Civil Aviation Regulations. The amendment which contains Part 101: Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) which came into operation on the 1st of July 2015. Within this regulation it was a requirement that all Commercial Drone operators in South Africa obtain Third Party Liability insurance.

This is why UIB stepped in and made finding a solution our goal – we focused on understanding drone usage and the regulations surrounding drones, especially those relating to the operators and flying legally.
UIB started the first comprehensive drone insurance platform in South Africa to covers loss or damage related to the drone /UAV and payload. Full accidental flight cover is included and available. Most insurers excluded drone equipment from their policy wording, so UIB created a solution to include full theft cover on all equipment including payload whilst on the ground or in safe keeping.
In 2017 we were invited to the first ever South African Drone Conference, brought to you by UDH Group. As the first specialist drone insurance broker we grabbed the opportunity to be an integral part of an industry which, at that stage, was just starting to take off.
Today UAV’s are key components in the South African mining, agricultural, security, film and photographic industries.
Drone Con is South Africa’s largest drone conference with a keen focus on African solutions for commercial drone industries and offers delegates a diversity of relevant exhibitions.

In 2018 the Conference grew as more and more companies received their ROC and employed more RPL Pilots.
